What do you mean? There are two, and it's assumed neither will be taking over during her absence, or they wouldn't have put the call out.

It would actually cost more if they alternated them. (Once an understudy has gone on a certain number of performances, they have to make a percentage of the salary of the person they cover.)

Then again, if they're auditioning for someone new in the ensemble track, with the intention of promoting Nikki Daniels or Haviland Stillwell, that might make more sense. The same amount of time and effort might go into teaching someone an ensemble track as it would Fantine. Maybe it'll depend on how impressed they are with whoever shows up to the call.

According to all the reviews I have read, she is one of the only interesting things about the current "revival".
