Hi! THis is Sylive Prouvaire again, and I'd lie to know, how many people have read the unabridged book of Les Mis and what their favorite parts are.

Any part where Hugo actually includes some plot, instead of making sure we know how much research he did.

Amen to that! I remember when he was talking about Waterloo he literally was listing off how many of these troops were killed, how many of these were injured, etc. etc. etc.
I love the scene in the woods where Cosette meets Jean Valjean, and the ensuing scene at the Thenardier's inn. I had this sort of "Oh! *stifled sob*" When Valjean bought Cosette the doll, haha. What scenes do I not love? It's my favourite book of all time.

I have! I finished it a little while ago after I saw the revival. As for a favorite part, it's hard to say! I enjoyed it all so much! But I did really enjoy:

a) Anything with Fantine. They give so much more to her character than you see in the show. I always respected her a lot, but after reading the book, I respect her so much more. I didn't even know that was possible.

b) When they introduced each of the members of the Friends of the A B C. I talk to friends who know the musical and I can mention names like Joly or Prouvaire or Combeferre and they have NO idea who I'm talking about because it's hard to pick out those characters when watching the show. I fell in love with Prouvaire when reading the book :) I even did a project on him for English class :)

c) THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GRANTAIRE AND ENJOLRAS. Just thought of this one now. I LOVE it. We don't see as much of that in the show. I loved it.

AND

d) How Marius LITERALLY stalks Cosette. Cutest/creepiest thing ever. Also when they meet...finally lol. I thought that was rather cute as well.

I love SO many parts of the book but if I went on, this comment would never end. It's long enough as is lol.

As weird as it sounds, I liked the description of the convent. I am a history minor, so that probably explains part of it.

I still haven't read it, because it still hasn't been published in Norwegian and my french never became good enough start reading it in French.

But my favorite part is where Marius follows Cosette in the gardens.

Thank you! The version I've read is in three volumes, it will be interesting to find out what they've cut.

One of my favorite parts is "Authority reasserts its rights", in which Javert confronts Valjean at Fantine's deathbed.
Says Javert: "And now there's the other one! Will you hold your tongue, you hussy? It's a pretty sort of a place where convicts are magistrates, and where women of the town are cared for like countesses! Ah! But we are going to change all that; it is high time!"
I love his weird speech patterns. :)

My other favorite is anything from "The Seventh Circle & the Eighth Heaven" to the end; that is, from where Valjean confesses to Marius to his death. Those bits really make me cry.

I'm currently reading it, and my absolute favorite part is the whole story of Fantine. I get emotional especially when I read of her relationship with Valjean, before and during her death. My other favorite parts are the relationship of Marius and Cosette (from the time he follows her in the park onward) and the meetings of the Amis.

"A Heart Beneath a Stone"

... breathtakingly eloquent. This is without a doubt my favorite novel.
